The Crystal Coast Helps Seafood Lovers "Catch the Excitement" at the North Carolina Seafood Festival
September 26, 2007
Emerald Isle • Atlantic Beach • Morehead City • Beaufort • Cape Lookout, N.C. -- Sep 26, 2007 -- The 21st annual North Carolina Seafood Festival and the Crystal Coast -- North Carolina’s Southern Outer Banks -- challenges visitors to “Catch the Excitement,” Oct. 5-7, 2007. All proceeds are shared with community organizations that donate their efforts to the event. Since 1987, close to $2 million has been dispersed to participating Carteret County non-profit groups. The three-day event is the second largest in the state and continues its reign as a “Top 20 Destination” by the Southeastern Tourism Society. Guests participate in complementary activities from 6 a.m. Friday until 4 p.m. Sunday ranging from fishing tournaments, live music, boat shows and ceremonies. “The Blessing of the Fleet” ceremony recognizes the efforts of fishermen from Carteret County that significantly impact the nations’ fresh seafood supply. The Festival’s priority is to honor those who lost their lives at sea and also those who continue to risk them. Three performance stages and the Oyster Rock Pub will play a variety of music for three straight days. Friday night The Breakfast Club will blast 80’s music, as guests are welcome to break out spandex pants, bright colors and scrunchies. The audience comes alive Saturday night when country music star Steve Holy plays his chart toppers, including Don’t Make Me Beg and Good Morning Beautiful. On the Clam Jam Stage, The Waller Family gets audiences out of their seats and onto the dance floor. For its fourth year, the Southern Outer Banks Boat Show allows visitors to view top of the line water cruisers or test drive a car, truck or boat in the NC State Port. This year, Corvette-lovers delight as Carolina Chevy Dealers is named the “Vehicle Partner of the North Carolina Seafood Festival.” Athletes dust off their running shoes and gear up for a scenic 8K road race, before cooling off in the Sailing Regatta. If sailing is not in the cards, the whole crews heads over to Oceanana’s Family Fishing Contest. The competitive fisherman has the opportunity to enter the second annual ESPN2 Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup fishing tournament and win big bucks. After running, sailing, fishing and eating, visitors enjoy a visually stunning fireworks display. For the overnight guest, the Crystal Coast offers vacationers a variety of lodging options to suit every lifestyle and budget. From seaside cottages and massive beach mansions to oceanfront hotels and quaint bed-and-breakfasts, there is an option for everyone. The Carteret County is actively supporting its local fishermen with their Carteret Catch Program. The program’s goal is to sustain the livelihood of Carteret County’s fishing industry through partnership between local restaurants and the county’s fishing industry. The Clean Beaches Council recognized the Crystal Coast as having “Clean and Healthy Beaches”. The Crystal Coast is also considered one of the best shipwreck diving destinations in the world by Scuba Diving magazine.
