The 22nd Annual North Carolina Seafood Festival
in the Crystal Coast Provides a Palette-Pleasing Getaway
February 19, 2009
EMERALD ISLE • ATLANTIC BEACH • MOREHEAD CITY • BEAUFORT • CAPE LOOKOUT, N.C. -- June 12, 2008 – Fresh catch stimulates the palettes of seafood-lovers at the 22nd annual North Carolina Seafood Festival on Oct. 3-5, 2008, highlighting fresh fare with the Carterest Catch program - ensuring the superiority of seafood caught on American soil and preserving the local economy that relies heavily on the seafood industry. From “fresh from the dock” seafood and eye-catching fireworks to the NCSF/Twin Bridges 8K Race and family fishing experiences, guests enjoy a weekend packed with culturally creative entertainment, where close to $2 Million has been raised for Carteret County non-profit groups since 1987. While more than 80% of seafood is imported, usually meaning farmed and frozen, the Carteret Catch provides same-day fresh fare for area restaurants, while supporting a local industry that has been alive for 400 years in Carteret County. The North Carolina Seafood Festival boasts the superiority of the seafood they serve due to their partnership with the Carteret Catch Program. For the financially-conscious family, the festival provides a diverse selection of free activities. Fireworks illuminate the sky, kicking off the opening ceremony. SasSea’s Island Playground for Children provides tireless hours of fun for the kids in a safe environment with a fun ocean view, while the Navy Ship tours and the Atlantic Beach Surf Fishing Tournament allow for visitors to experience the Crystal Coast outdoors. Guests experience the savory cuisine from local vendors offering home-cooked fare from Broiled Lemon Parmesan Jumbo Shrimp and Core Sound Clam Chowder to Homemade Crabcakes and Down East Lemon Pie. Exercise enthusiasts stretch their legs at the NCSF/Twin Bridges 8K Race that launches from Beaufort on Saturday morning and ends at the Atlantic Beach Causeway. Visitors also try their hand at casting a lure, as fishers rush the beaches at the crack of dawn for the continuation of the Atlantic Beach Surf Fishing Tournament. Families enjoy the sights of masterfully crafted and displayed boats at the 5th Annual Southern Outer Banks Boat Show, which displays top of the line vessels and other marine masterpieces. The selection of accommodations range from family friendly affordable lodging to resort, ocean-front suites, providing an opportunity for travelers to relax in comfort while not burning a hole in their wallet. A sampling of accommodations rates for October: • Holiday Inn Morehead City : $105/night • Pecan Tree Inn Bed & Breakfast : $110/night • Inlet Inn : $125/night • Econolodge Crystal Coast : $129/night • Sheraton Atlantic Beach : $179/night Dangling like a delicate strand of pearls off the coast of North Carolina, the favored Atlantic beach destination of generations captivates discerning palates with the "Crystal Coast is Cookin’" promotion encompassing food festivals, restaurant offers and epicurean excursions. With 85 miles of silken coastline along the southern Outer Banks, 56 miles of which are in the protected Cape Lookout National Seashore, the Crystal Coast includes the seaside towns of Atlantic Beach, Beaufort, Emerald Isle, and Morehead City. The Crystal Coast is also home to one of the oldest cemeteries in the state, Fort Macon State Park, Blackbeard’s legendary ship the Queen Anne’s Revenge and is the setting for several of Nicholas Sparks’ best selling novels.
