North Carolina’s Crystal Coast Wines & Dines Visitors During the Beaufort Wine and Food Weekend
March 27, 2007

EMERALD ISLE • ATLANTIC BEACH • MOREHEAD CITY • BEAUFORT • CAPE LOOKOUT, N.C. -- The Beaufort Wine and Food Weekend brings “spirit” to the Crystal Coast, North Carolina’s Southern Outer Banks, April 26-29, 2007. The four-day event, in best-selling author Nicholas Spark’s beloved Beaufort, offers tastings of more than 300 exotic and local wines, from South Africa to California and New Zealand to North Carolina. Succulent cuisine will be prepared by renowned chefs, from Chapel Hill’s own Bill Smith of Crooks Corner with his award winning cookbook “Seasoned in the South” to Marcelle Bienvenu who has co-authored numerous cookbooks with Food Network star Emeril Lagasse.

Ringing in the third year of the event, Beaufort invites festivalgoers to participate in savoring wines from around the world and experiencing warm local hospitality. Blending local flavor with a taste of the world each winemaker is paired with a Beaufort chef and a regional guest chef. All chefs will be concocting dinners of epicurean magnitude, nicely complemented by wine provided by vintners.

The charity event, benefiting Friends of the NC Maritime Museum and the Beaufort Historic Site, kicks-off Thursday with wine dinners at Shepard’s Point, Williams, Front Street Grill at Stillwater, Aqua, Carlton’s, and Beaufort Grocery. Friday’s “A Fashionable Wine Lunch” at The Coral Bay Club blends fashion with food with a showcase of the latest styles for spring and summer. Followed by seminars, artists, wine and cheese events along with an evening Grand Gala and Auction featuring fabulous food and wine pairing along with music and dancing.

Saturday marks the official opening of the Beaufort Wine and Food Culinary Village featuring over 60 culinary related businesses and over 300 different wines and a Vintners Receptions in private historic homes and a “Carolina Nights” food and fun celebration add to the over 17 events taking place during the weekend. The festivities conclude on Sunday with a brunch and a fitting finale to a fabulous weekend featuring the presentation of the 2007 BWF Wine and Food awards.

Wine connoisseurs looking for accommodations will find the Beaufort Inn and the Inlet Inn both ideally situated directly on the water in Beaufort’s National Registered Historic District. Cousin Martha’s Bed & Breakfast is a bed and breakfast with a twist, as visitors can buy quirky named products such as Satan’s Breath and Elmo’s Fire, along with other spices and gifts. For a
restful oasis, vacationers can venture to the Ann Street Inn or the Pecan Tree Inn and Gardens with elegant guest rooms and deluxe suites with private baths, inviting porches, wireless Internet, and a bountiful continental breakfast.

Dangling like a delicate strand of pearls off the coast of North Carolina, the favored Atlantic beach destination of generations represents one of the only remaining natural barrier island systems in the World. The Islands are strung together with 85 miles of silken coastline along the southern Outer Banks, 56 miles of which are in the protected Cape Lookout National Seashore. Miles of shimmering water reflects countless tiny suns during the day and shatters the moon into a thousand pieces at night. Lush maritime forests edge the silken coast like emerald jewels studding a royal crown. The barrier islands take a curious southward curve, blessing the Crystal Coast with beaches that course east and west making it possible to admire the dazzlingly bright sun rise to greet the day and then slip into the shimmering translucent blue waters in the evening during a spectacular North Carolina sunset.
